CAMP SITE
Thursday was a chill out day. With nowhere planned to visit, we decided to just go out in the jeep for a drive. The weather forecast was for sun and showers, so we took a chance and put the canvas roof up, hoping we could dry it if it got wet. The route from the camp site was to be a large counter-clockwise circuit. |
St
BRIEUC
St Brieuc was on our route, so we decided to visit, on the understanding that there was an old town there. Having arrived, we found nowhere to park, and nothing that seemed to hold an interest for us, so we drove on through. The picture to the right was taken on a brief pause to study the map to work out our next heading. |

MONCONTOUR Our lunch stop was at a little walled village called Moncontour. Aside from the church, 'town' hall, and a few shops and cafes, there was little there, and what was there, was closed for lunch! |

CHURCH After another long drive, and a slow climb up a large hill, we came upon the church at Bel Air, which is now undergoing a three year restoration program. |

| A couple
of hundred yards down the road and the hedges cleared to allow a view
down the hillside across miles of country side.
Not long after this, the jeep brakes seemed to be a bit spongy, so we decided to find somewhere to allow everything to cool off a while. |

| ABBEY de
BOQUEN We found a 12th Century Abbey which made an ideal place for the jeep to cool off. The building, which had fallen into ruins with only the outer walls remaining, was rebuilt from 1936 onwards. Coming out of the Abbey, by chance in the grass beside the path, we saw a vole which seemed to be quite happy for us to watch him up close, and to pose for a photograph. |

| As
it turned out, the break didn't help the jeep brakes, and by about 5
miles from the campsite, they were almost non-existent. The handbrake
was ok, so by a combination of using the gears and the hand brake, we
made it back to the campsite after 126 miles since morning. A quick
check revealed the fluid level to be ok, so the problem lies elsewhere.
"Jessie" had clocked up 695 miles in France, and only got tired in the last couple of miles of the last day. Overall, I'm very happy with the 47 year old vehicle's performance. With the holiday over, and the return trip beginning the following morning, there was no need to worry too much about the brakes. They could be looked at back in England. |
