Saturday July 23rd

Saturday morning we packed up camp at Bayeux and headed for our second site at Dinan. On the way, we stopped at Avranches, the town liberated by General Patton.

GENERAL PATTON MONUMENT
at Avranches

In the middle of the town, in the centre of a large roundabout, is the monument to General Patton and a bronze bust. Near by, there is a Sherman, a map showing the Generals advances in the area and a plaque as a memorial to the 406th Fighter Group, based for a time in the area.

WORLD WAR 2 MUSEUM

Only a few miles from the Patton monument is the WW2 Museum. This small museum has a large collection of uniforms from both the Allies and Germany.

Many artifacts and models are also on display, along with a film explaining the advances through the area made by the Allies. In the car park is a large anti-aircraft gun.

HALLERAIS CAMPSITE
at Taden

After a long drive towing the Jeep, we made it to our second camp site, and fortunately set up camp before a huge rainstorm which lasted all night.
