The Evolution of the Jeep Colour Schemes

From the day of paying the deposit on the Jeep, the look and colour schemes have evolved and changed to suit certain events and to give different looks. This page records those changes.

When first found in 2005, "Jessie" started out in French Army Green, Brown and Black camo, straight from the French Army auctions.
We got the Jeep painted by the dealer in an overall olive finish, ready for the year of VE Celebrations in 2005.

Once home, I added the 100th Bombardment Group markings, copied from the 351st Squadron Engineering Officer's Jeep.

In 2007, I made wooden sides and doors, based on the wartime picture of the 351st Engineering Officer's Jeep.

For one event in May 2008, the markings changed to the 437th Troop Carrier Group from the 9th U.S. Air Force. This was also the beginning of the "Follow Me" conversion.

The full conversion came later that year, with the Follow Me sign, the Stop/Go light box and checkered roof canvas.

The original green wooden side panels were painted in checkered markings next and that scheme stayed as standard to present day.

A temporary change to RAF markings came in 2018 for the 100th Anniversary of the RAF. Magnetic plastic markings were used.

In 2019, a photoshoot resulted in more magnetic markings for the Ordnance Depot scheme.

The most recent scheme change was into Red Cross markings, which was first seen in September 2019.
