10th - Cylinder Head Removal and Insert Manufacture
On October the 3rd, the master brake cylinder
failed, shortly after leaving home. I was literally yards from the
house, so got back home ok. There were no signs of any brake fluid leaks
from the master or wheel cylinders. As a result, I suspected the seals
in the master cylinder. A new seal kit was ordered the same day, along
with a front and rear cylinder seal kit, just in case they were the
issue. The way the M201 Jeep had been parked in the middle of the
garage, there was enough room to get around the GPW, although it was
turned around in the garage to put the master cylinder on the side away
from the wall, for better access. |

The master cylinder was removed and stripped on the 10th. The inside of the master cylinder looked okay, with no signs of wear, pitting and no burrs could be felt. The new seals were fitted and it all went back together. Not having anyone around to assist with bleeding the brakes, the pedal was pushed down and held with a length of wood, jammed between the pedal and seat cushion.
The wheel cylinder bleed nipple opened and after a short flow of brake
fluid, closed again. This was repeated until the air bubbles stopped on
each wheel, pausing to top up the master cylinder with fluid every so
often. A test drive up and down the drive seemed okay, but the weather
hasn't been good enough for a proper drive yet. |
