7th - Leaking Cylinder Head Gasket Hope
hasn't been out much in 2023. We had a first run out of the year with
both Jeeps, then I did trailer the GPW to Elvington for the 80th
birthday/D.O.D of the Jeep. In June, my daughter and I went out for a
D-Day drive and poppy hunt, but at the first stop, my daughter pointed
out coolant leaking from the radiator overflow. A little further
investigation back home, showed the level dropping, so I suspected the
head gasket was failing. I think the last time I did it, it was a Seal
Tested gasket. I probably should have got Fel-Pro. |

I've had a crazy busy year working in the garden and so haven't had time to look at the GPW until now. A run to temperature in the garage showed water weeping up the centre bolt and also bubbling in the number two plug well. The radiator level was also fluctuating with RPM. I'm also planning on changing all the cylinder head bolts to studs and fixing the stripped centre bolt hole that my engine rebuilder didn't bother with. I made a temporary fix two and a half years ago, but really need to fit an insert into the block for the new stud. I'm currently waiting for parts to be in stock before I start work. |
