My Daughter's School Leavers Prom at Beamish Hall - July 1st

The 1st of July was possibly our most important event of the year. After several years of hard studying and a few months of exams, my daughter finished school. Wednesday the 1st was the date for her leavers prom and of course, the green vehicles had to be the method to get there and make a grand entrance.

I got the Dodge out in the morning so I had time to get the bows and canvas fitted in the dry, as there was rain forecast for later in the day. While I was doing that, my wife and daughter were out getting her hair and make up sorted. A local pub had set up a prom photo booth, so we went there for some photos and also did a few more in our garden during the afternoon, before getting ready to convoy to Beamish Hall.

We opted for the Jeep and the Dodge, so that should there be a mechanical failure on the way there, we'd still have a vehicle to get her there. My daughter's boyfriend came along too and we found out that he fitted my dad's uniform, so we could all go looking he part. The rain showers came just as we set off, not heavy, but annoying considering all the hot dry weather over the last week.

We'd wrapped up my daughter in the front of the Dodge, with the doors fitted, to keep her warm and dry and stopped at a picnic spot about three quarters of a mile from Beamish Hall. We did a few more photos here and then removed the Dodge doors and relocated my daughter to the back of the truck, without the extra wrapping, for the final drive to the entrance.

I'd led on the way there, so the Dodge could set the pace, but after the picnic spot, Lynne took the lead in the Jeep to escort the Dodge to the door. One of the other parents took a video of our arrival and I took a couple of screen shots from that video. When we stopped, I jumped out and set up my generator crate and an ammunition crate up at the back as steps to help my daughter climb out. Another Go-pro camera in the Dodge, caught her climbing out, after which we grabbed a few more quick pictures and moved on so we didn't hold up the queue.

The rain got heavier just as we set off home, so we stopped at the picnic spot again to refit the Dodge doors and fit the canvas roof to the Jeep. There were no problems on the way there or back, but we did get wet dismantling the Dodge canvas and bows to get it back in the garage. Upon getting home, I noticed the Dodge was now only 9 miles off clocking 20,000 miles.
