Northallerton 1940s Day - June 28th It was an 82 mile round trip to Northallerton, mostly on country lanes. The roads were in such a poor state, it felt like I was being shot at by 88mm flak guns most of the trip. Long legs and a Jeep driver's compartment aren't a comfy combination. Add a 2 inch cushion and leaf springs and a long trip gets painful. It wasn't this bad 21 years ago when I got the Jeep, so it's either the roads getting much worse or I'm getting old!

Bar one heavy, but brief shower, the day saw the UK's great late June weather for the day, bringing great numbers of public out to the high street to see the vehicles and other attractions.

On the military side, there were a decent and varied selection of vehicles including a couple of halftracks, Jeeps, Dodges and a few other makes.



At one end of the high street, there was a stage with live music and dancing, while at the other end of the street, there were a large selection of classic cars on show. There were probably at least three to four times the number of classics compared to the military.

The high street was open to the public from 10am to 4pm and was fairly busy for the whole six hours. When I got home, I stripped the Flying Control accessories off the Jeep and swapped to the Ordnance Depot markings for a special Dodge and Jeep outing on Wednesday.
