Breighton Aerodrome "G-George" 1940s Weekend - August 14th~16th It's been a while since I've been to Breighton with the Jeep.狢 returned in 2026 for the "G-George" 1940s weekend, taking Jessie in the Flying Control markings.

The event was a fly-in, rather than an airshow, since CCA rules and insurance on fly-ins are less restrictive than a full airshow. There was however, a Spitfire display booked for the end of Saturday.

I set up on Friday afternoon and then spent the rest of the day watching arrivals. After the Mark Vb Spitfire landed, I arranged for a Jeep photoshoot with the Spit. The Sun was behind the clouds for much of the evening, but in the last hour of daylight, it dropped out of the bottom of a cloud bank and gave a great golden light.

There were a number of warbirds there over the weekend, some that are based there, while others were visiting for the weekend. In addition to the Mark Vb Spitfire, there was also a Mark IX that joined it for the flying display. Other visiting warbirds included a Hurricane, C-47 skytrain, Cessna Bird Dog, Stearman PT-17 Kaydet, and a Harvard amongst others. There were also many general aviation aircraft visiting.

On the ground, there were a number of military vehicles and re-enactor displays, classic cars, buses and trucks on show. The Driffield brass band were playing in one of the hangars and there were other singers and bands performing across the weekend.

At 2:30pm on Saturday, the Spitfire Vb flew out to the former RAF Church Fenton to meet up with the Mark IX. They returned at 5pm for the joint display. They made a number of joint passes before the Mark Vb peeled off and the Mark IX Spit did a solo display. When that was completed, the Mark Vb returned and did its solo display.

On Sunday, the Ryan PT-22 made its first post restoration test flight after a three year overhaul and repaint into the blue and yellow Army Air Corps scheme. This is the same aircraft that I flew back in 2016, when it was in its all yellow civilian scheme.

On Saturday evening, as the Sun was going down, there was another great sunset and I caught some great silhouettes of the Hurricane.
