Ushaw Historic House 1940s Weekend - July 5/6th

Ushaw Historic House and Chapel was a religious college in its hay-day and it's a huge complex. Once again, we had planned to take two Jeeps, camp and put out a bit of a diorama for the weekend. However, due to a poor weather forecast, the organisers changed the vehicle display location from the field to in front of the building, with dioramas indoors. This meant our tents would have been out of sight of the display, so we decided to just travel each day with just one Jeep.

Day one was busy with lots of public around. It was quite windy all day, but with plenty of with sunny intervals. There were nine vehicles on display and several dioramas lining the halls of the main building. There was a firing display during the early afternoon.

Day two had the worst forecast, with thundery showers from mid morning. As a result, there were only two Jeeps on Sunday. As it happened, Sunday was flat calm and the rain didn't start until mid afternoon, just before the firing display! We got wet watching the firing, then packed up the Jeep and headed home in heavy rain about 2:45pm. The show was finishing at 4pm, so didn't feel bad leaving a little early.

Perhaps next year we'll get to camp?
