Derwent "Dambusters" Dam - August 29th

During a few days away in Derbyshire, I realised that I was quite close to the Derwent Dam. This is the dam used by 617 Squadron's Lancasters to train for the famous Dambusters raid in Germany. Being so close and having a day free, Lynne and I did a seven mile walk around Derwent and Ladybower. With the long dry Spring and Summer, both reservoirs were quite low and the original flooded Derwent village could be seen on dry land in Ladybower.

Having had a family member who worked on the spotlights of the Dambuster Lancasters, the Derwent dam is a location I've wanted to visit for some time. The huge structure didn't disappoint and in my mind's eye, I could picture the Lancasters thundering low over the dam.
