Battery Goes to War", Blyth Battery in Northumberland - May 17~18th
Since the Dodge hadn't been out
since Remembrance Weekend in November, after Elvington, I gave it a
service and took it for a drive to get fuel. All was well and ready for
Blyth Battery. There were several areas of queues on the thirty two mile
trip to Blyth and it was a fairly warm day, but I noticed that within a
couple of miles of the battery, that the temperature was a bit higher
than normal. It was a windy day, which made it fun setting up the tent,
but by early evening, camp was set up and food was cooking.

Saturday was fairly bright, but there was a
strong North East wind off the sea, pulling the temperature down.
There were plenty of displays, stretching from beyond the gun battery to the
South, to the Search Light Battery in the North.

I don't think there were quite as many
vehicles as previous years, with a few in the diorama field ( mine included ),
several behind and to the side of the gun battery, a few at the Search Light
Battery and a few along the edge of the car park. There were a number of
singers and musicians who had slots to perform along side the battery cafe.

On each day of the show, there was a battle
amongst the dunes, with the Germans winning the invasion of Norway on Saturday
and the Allies winning in Normandy on Sunday.

Most of my photographs were taken on
Saturday, the brighter day of the two. Sunday was mostly overcast and with the
same North East wind, the temperature was colder.

I packed my tent away first thing on Sunday,
so there was only the barbed wire fence to pack up at the end of the day. I'd
only got around nine miles home when the engine temperature got too hot and I
pulled into a layby. I'd been watching it creep up on the way home, but it
didn't settle and kept rising. Rather than mess around on the side of a fast
road, the AA brought the Dodge home.

After unloading, I started up the Dodge,
drove it around the back of the house to the garage and unloaded everything.
Later, it was fired up again to put it in the garage, but left running. After
seven minutes, the temperature was normal and stable at various RPMs and with
the Dodge away in the garage, I switched off. I can only guess at a stuck
thermostat, but need to do some more investigating before going for another
drive.
I'll probably do some more runs on the
drive to see what the temperature does and use a thermometer to check the
coolant pipes heat, but will probably pull the thermostat and give that a
look over.
