I didn't take the Jeep to Breighton this year. Due to the workload in
the garden, I'm pushing onwards as fast as I can to get the lawn
levelled and seeded. I want it to have some growing time before the year
is out. Camping there would mean packing and travelling on Friday,
returning on Sunday, with the trailer probably not going back together
again until Monday morning.
Instead, I just went down for the
day in the normal car and didn't stay for the evening hangar party. The
weather forecast wasn't looking too good, with thunder storms forecast
from noon. The morning was bright and hot and there were some nice WW2
aircraft attending, including a C-47B Skytrain, the largest aircraft
attending. The poor forecast around the country, resulted in not too
many visiting aircraft flying in for the day.
For once, the weather forecasters
got it right and heavy rain started around lunch time. The Battle of
Britain Flight Lancaster was meant to show, but kept being delayed and
eventually was cancelled due to a technical problem. There were a few
breaks in the rain, but it didn't ease up until late afternoon, allowing
a few aircraft to fly. The Spitfire left late afternoon with the C-47
flying out the following morning.
