May 23rd - Battery Maintenance

I'm currenty waiting for the builder to start working on modifying the garage so the Dodge will fit. For now, it is still gift wrapped until I can get it indoors, but I gave the engine another run and warm through on May 21st. I took the battery back out for some maintenance, as that's easier done on my workshop bench than under the covers and hood.

I suspected one cell may be failing, so put it ona  maintenance charger and added another acid tablet in each cell. The battery is probably around 16 years old now and had some signs of cracking in the case which were filled to stop any leaks.

The negative terminal securing bolt was also showing signs of age, being severaly corroded. The bolt was removed and a replacement found, then the terminal clamp was cleaned up prior to reassembly. Each cell is giving 2.1volts at rest, but I suspect it isn't holding charge as well as it should. I'm not sure the Dodge will be used this year and once it is garaged, I think I'll then give it a look look over for a possible return to the road in 2022. If the battery is really on its last legs, I'll not get a replacement until the Dodge is going to be used again.
