July 27th was meant to be a Lunar Eclipse. After weeks of hot Summer weather, it clouded over in time for the eclipse. I headed down to the coast anyway, in the hope there may be a gap in the clouds and I could catch the eclipsed Moon rising. As the time of Moon rise approached, the sky darkened and a huge thunderstorm began, which lasted over an hour. While I wasn't prepared to photograph lightning, I used my mobile phone to capture video and then used the PIPP astro software to split the video into single frames to extract the lightning captures.
