Fender and Windscreen Repairs
The original rubber windscreen seals were cleaned up with brake fluid. | The fenders were filled and sanded to smooth out the welding repairs. |
The underside of the fenders were given a coat of gloss grey to waterproof them, followed by the olive drab top coat.
The
inner windscreen frame had repairs made with brazing rod, to rebuild the
corroded areas. |
The holes in the screen frame for the wipers was vastly oversize, perhaps from the fitting of a post war wiper. Steel tubes were brazed in to return them to the correct size. |
These are the steel tubes prior to brazing into the screen. | The inner screen frame now in olive drab. |
The salvaged screen brackets were cleaned up and brazed back on to the repaired outer screen frame. | The brackets then had the arms and lock screws test fitted to check the travel as the screen was opened. |
The inner screen open and locked. | A new skin was attached to the screen frame to replace the original rusted one. |
The screen frame was test fitted on to the Jeep in order to trial fit the corner fillets. |
The
screen corner fillets needed some trimming to fit correctly. |
All the screen repairs complete. | The screen in grey undercoat. |
The inside of the screen in olive drab. | The underside of the hood in gloss grey. Later in the day it too received its olive drab. |
