Ongoing Work in 2011
June 11th - Tappet Adjustment
Recently I've noticed power has been lacking, and so when Mike came over last time to finish off work on the Dodge, he brought a pressure gauge to test the cylinders. Pressures were 86-105-105-105psi. Two years ago when the Jeep was at Croft for some work, they were all around 115-119psi. I suspected valve/tappet clearance, and being a side valve, the carburettor and manifold had to come off. New gaskets were ordered prior to the job. Carb and manifolds came off first ( seen right ). This left the way clear to get the cover plate off the tappets. |

After adjusting, it all went back together with the old gaskets for a test drive. Performance was improved, so off it all came again, gaps rechecked and it was re-assembled. Pressure testing again afterwards gave readings around the 115-120PSI on all four cylinders. |

April 9th - Brakes and Wheel Bearings Another great day for weather, so I finished off the Spring service on the Jeep today. All the wheels were removed, bearings cleaned, re-greased and re-assembled. All the brake shoes were also adjusted to close up the gaps due to wear. The Jeep is now good to go, but I have it all to do again with the Dodge the next good weekend we get. ----- |
Before the Jeep's first event this year at Sedgefield, we got a nice sunny weekend, so I decided to get the Jeeps annual service done. Engine oil changed, diff oil checked and topped up, transfer case checked and ok, gearbox oil topped up, greased all the nipples. I ran out of day before getting any further, so I needed another sunny day! |
