Ongoing Work in 2007

October 17th '07 - New Exhaust Fitted

Halfway through the Pickering weekend, the whole rear face and tailpipe of the exhaust came off. Rust and old age had taken their toll on the rear seam. We went to one of the 1940s clothes stalls and got some wire coat hangers which saved the day. It held the tailpipe in place for the trip back home, but it was too far gone to repair.

A new replacement silencer was bought from Jeeparts and it arrived the day after ordering. However, it was slightly wider than the failed unit, resulting in the front mounting bracket being too small.

The support was cut and extended by 5/8 inch, and re-welded, allowing it to fit the larger silencer.

May 28th '07 - New Indicators Added

Since the new trailer had indicators fitted to the rear light clusters, it required a 24 volt indicator unit to be fitted to the jeep.

The unit was a truck part since trucks use 24 volts, and the LED side lights were replaced with bulbs to become the jeep indicators.

May 19th '07 - Repaired Wiper Arm

On May 18th, The jeep went in for its MOT. One of the first items to be tested were the manual wipers.

Unfortunately the heavy handed mechanic got a little carried away working them and snapped the arm where the square drive attaches to the wiper arm. The arrow points to the location of the break. The parts were welded back together that evening.

February 26th '07 - Freed up and refurbished Mirror Arm

Since buying the jeep, the mirror arm has been seized solid. Now that I have doors, the short armed mirror can no longer be seen.

It has been stripped down, freed, a new locking bolt found and its hole re-tapped, and the whole thing re-sprayed. The new longer reach allows the mirror head to be seen through the door window.

February 3rd '07 - Welded rear seat mounting holes

Since the jeep had been fitted with radios, it was also fitted with a single rear seat. The metal around the holes had a few stress cracks, so the holes and cracks were welded up, and made neat with filler. This doesn't level the floor, just blends the welded area with the existing distorted floor panel.
