Ongoing Work in 2006

June 30th '06 - Exhaust Welded & Rust on Body Underside Treated

Areas on the underside of the floor needed rust treating. The exhaust was removed to do this and in doing so, I found three small holes which were welded up. The exhaust was then sprayed with some heat resistant paint.

The floor was then rotary wire brushed to remove the rust, sprayed with red primed and then an olive topcoat sprayed.

Rust / Filler Removed from Right Fender

There was a small patch of growing rust on the rear corner of the right fender. After a quick grind with a wire brush, revealed itself to be a small patch of rust and a large patch of filler.

The rust was ground out and low the area built up with weld. The area inside where the reinforcing plate was was also treated, and filled to prevent moisture being trapped. After, the area was primed and resprayed.

April 21st '06 - Rear Prop Shaft Replaced

On the way to the Locomotion Railway Museum at Shildon over the Easter weekend, there was a loud bang below the jeep. It soon became apparent that one of the universal joint bearings in the rear prop shaft had destroyed itself, despite only recently being re-greased. I suspect that the circlip, holding the bearing in place, came out allowing the bearing to fall out of the end of the yoke.

Replacement shafts come as a complete unit ( see below right ), but only requires eight bolts to be removed to replace it.
