Mid afternoon on September 7th, I set off for what
once was RAF Scorton. Meeting up with some other vehicle owners at Croft.
There were around ten vehicles in attendance for the memorial dedication, and
about 70 people from the village and surrounding area The station commander of
RAF Leeming unveiled the memorial which stands next to the restored windsock
mast.

The airfield has been heavily quarried, and this
panoramic image below shows the area that was once the runways of Scorton.
For the event, 'Jessie' received a 422nd Night
Fighter Squadron patch, as the 422nd were based at Scorton flying P-61 Black
Widows.

After the ceremony, the vehicles were driven to the
village green where a small display had been set up in the village hall, along
with a buffet. I set off home after Sun set, arriving home in the dark, but
fortunately had Karl brought his bike in his van, and stayed behind me on the
A1(M) to keep faster cars away from me. He informed me that at times, I was
touching 60mph, the fastest I've ever been in 'Jessie', arriving home with
about 1 inch of fuel left in the tank.
