The Durham Market Place
Nostalgia Day was one of the few this year to see warm sunny weather. The first
four vehicles arrived around 8:15 while the market traders were still setting
up, followed by another three vehicles arriving about half an hour later, all
setting up at the bottom end of the market near the church. The event was for no
other reason than a bit of nostalgia for the City, and to put on a display of
something a bit different in the market. |

As can be seen from the pictures later in the day, there were many hundreds of people there, several of whom were veterans. I talked quite a while to an ex Halifax and Lancaster navigator. His last mission to Dusseldorf in 1943, ended in a crash landing near Norwich after loosing an engine over the target and another on the way home, after being attacked by three fighters. He remembers nothing of the crash, and never flew again. Colin, the event organiser, was very happy with the success of the day, and hopes to repeat it again next year. |
