Weardale Railway Crank Up - 16th March

Apologies for some of the action photos being a little blurred. I was expecting a day with lots of driving, so left my SLR camera at home in favour of a compact digi, which isn't as good on the move. It did however, allow me to take some video in addition to stills. Ten vehicles and around 30 people turned out for the area Crank Up and 'War on the Line' Publicity day at the Weardale Railway. Meeting at Stanhope station for 10am, we were to meet with the local press before moving along the line handing out leaflets about the event. Unfortunately the press didn't show, so we were left to take our own press pics ( I really should have had the SLR with me!! )

Because of parking limitations in Stanhope, about half the group left the station to pass out event leaflets around the local businesses, tourist information and even the local church, 'though I don't believe the Sunday morning service was interrupted for this! After about 20 minutes, they returned to meet up with the rest of the convoy. From there we moved on to the Black Bull Inn in Frosterley for lunch. The owner had placed flags and wartime posters around the Inn for our visit, and there was also a jazz band playing, but I don't think they were there just for our benefit!!

After lunch and a long chat in the car park, we set off for Wolsingham to hand out more event leaflets. There seemed to be a great deal of interest in the event from those we talked to, so hopefully we'll get a good crowd in August.
